Why a root canal may be recommended
Deep decay, a crack, trauma, or repeated treatment can affect the pulp inside a tooth. If the tooth can be saved, root canal therapy may relieve the source of infection and preserve the natural tooth. We examine the tooth, review X-rays when appropriate, and discuss the condition of the surrounding bone and remaining tooth structure before recommending treatment.
What the visit involves
The area is numbed, then the affected tissue is removed and the canals are cleaned and sealed. The tooth may need a filling or crown afterward to protect it and restore comfortable chewing. Some cases take more than one appointment. We will explain the expected sequence and the signs that should prompt a call during healing.
A clear comparison of options
Sometimes a tooth cannot be predictably restored. If that is the case, we explain why and discuss extraction and tooth replacement options. We also review the cost of treatment and the final restoration so you can compare the complete plan, not just the first visit.
